JRU escapes Arellano, takes second straight win

MANILA, Philippines -- Jose Rizal University escaped Arellano University, 64-62, at the San Juan Arena Tuesday to take its second straight win in the NCAA Season 102 men's basketball tournament. The Heavy Bombers went on a 6-0 finishing kick capped by a Chris Hubilla split from the line to seize a 2-point lead with four seconds left. Sebastian Valencia tried to it for the Chiefs but missed his triple, and Renzo Abiera's putback did not count as time already expired. Lawrence Mangubat led JRU with 14 points including the trey that pulled his team within one, 61-62, in the last 19 seconds. Mangubat added nine rebounds and three steals to his name. JRU improved to 4-1 to solidify its hold of the second spot in Group A, while Arellano suffered its second straight loss for a 4-2 card which remains the best in Group B.
